So... I kind of hate myself a little more after writing/reading each of these entries... I am not a shallow person! I am a social worker! I go to BSF! I'm DEEP! I promise.. but I have to document this journey.. it is science.
:)
So I tried something different, I decided to mix my shampoo and conditioner.. so I mixed the baking soda and vinegar together.. and yes, it exploded.. but after that, I added the water and mixed it up. I decided I didn't like this because I felt like it was too hard to rinse out (and it exploded). And this time I blow dried (blew dried?) it right after and I found that to work much better... People, I am telling you.. the ACV+ cold water rinse makes your hair SOOOO SHINY! try it!
Today I curled my hair with my barrel curler and my curls HELD and I didn't put any product in it! They stayed in from about 8a to 2ish (then I put my hair in a pony tail bc it was like 90 today).. so I feel like that was amazing, w/o product my hair usually doesn't hold curl.. nice.
So..I am still not sure if I like this and it's making a difference or if I just WANT to like it so I am finding all my results to be positive (thank you research methods class).
Anyway.. I am not sure how this beach stuff is going to go, so hopefully it will work out well.. I am going to feel bad making the whole bathroom smell like vinegar... so I might not want to do bring that? I might just bring the baking soda. we shall see.

No More 'Poo Day 4
I decided to wash my hair with just water- and then massaged my scalp - and then brushed through it, and then I did the ACV conditioner.. I didn't dry it until I woke up this morning, and I think that was a mistake- it was way more greasy.. so I am not sure.. I guess I just have to trial/error until I get a good system.. I can't tell if my hair looks greasy to other people- it definitely feels greasy.. Actually I think my face just feels oily- but I am not sure if that is from living in NC, changing my moisturizer, or not using shampoo... too many variables! but again, it's only day 4.. I rescheduled my hair cut for June 10 and I am kind of nervous.. not sure what if I should just let them wash my hair with their salon stuff or if I should ask them not to use product.. hmm.. i guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it.. it's 16 days away, so I am sure one shampooing at that point won't matter...
So I am having a hard time deciding which are the best days to wash my hair.. I guess I am going to wash it tonight, and then I can wash it Friday... and then Monday? This is going to be hard this weekend because I am going to the beach.. hmmm... we shall see!

No More Poo Day 2 and 3
I don't think I am going to post every day because not that much changes but we shall see..
I ended up blow drying my hair, which I think was a good call- I noticed that my hair was super shiny! and the texture is smoother! I also brushed through it a ton-so that always helps.. the articles say to get a boar's head brush- but I just bought a new brush, so I am going to wait on that one. It rained this weekend and when my hair got wet i got subtle whiffs of vinegar, but it wasn't that bad. I haven't noticed it being majorly oily.. and my ends feel better- they look alive. My scalp kinda itches, but it always itches.. so that's not really a change...
I was talking about this at church and one of the ladies used to be a hair dresser and she thinks this is kind of silly- she stated that back in the 1900s people had hygiene issues and wore their hair in braids or up.. which she is totally right.. and she said my hair was probably getting dried out from the hair dryer and the straightener, not my shampoo.. but she said i might as well try, because all i have to do is wash it with shampoo if I decide to give up- not a high risk.
I do think she is right about the dryer/straightener, but in theory, I won't have to use them as much because my natural hair oils should control my waviness.. but who knows..
so I am not sure what to do next. I am not sure if I should wash my hair with just water or do the baking soda thing.. Or maybe I can rinse with water and then do the ACV for shine.. BC i think the BS is kind of harsh to use too often.. Maybe I will just do that once a week? or 2x.. not sure.. too many options!!!

No More 'Poo- Day 1.
So I am trying a new experiment with my hair and I thought I should blog about it, because that is what people do.
I usually get my hair done at Salon Blu, and I am mildly obsessed with my hairdresser Maggie, and do whatever she tells me. She is a genius... and expensive.. so I try to go every 10 weeks instead of the recommended 6-8.. and usually about week 7 I start to question that decision- my ends get really dry, and I sometimes break and go to "Great Cuts" or something like that and get a trim, because it just looks bad.. Anyway.. I talked to Maggie about this and she recommended that I stop washing my hair every day- and only do it about 2-3x a week max. So I did this, and liked the results..
Well, a couple weeks ago, I was getting that itch to go to great cuts, but I wanted to just hold out until my appointment.. and I happened to read an article (which I can't find now) talking about not using Shampoo any more.. which I thought was ridiculous.. but then I read some more articles about it.. the articles stated that shampoo was really only marked in the 1930s and before that people maybe washed their hair like 1ce a month.. The article suggested to just rinse the hair with water while massaging your scalp and then brush through it wet so the oils can run down and moisturize your hair... it warned that your hair might look like trash for 2-4 weeks but then you will have great results...so , i tried this for a week and yes, my hair was super oily because my scalp was not used to it.. but, my ends totally hydrated and came back to life! unfortunately i had to wash my hair because I had some important things coming up and didn't want to look lame.
Washing my hair with shampoo felt so good after being super oily all week.. but i noticed that my ends were totally dry again! So I did some more research online and found a Baking Soda shampoo and an Apple Cider Vinegar conditioner. So.. I decided to do it- and today is day one.
I mixed 1 tablespoon of b.s. with hot water and mixed it in a plastic bottle, and did the same with the ACV- except i did 2 tbsp to 1 cup of hot water... So it was a noticeable difference.. obviously there are no suds when you wash, and I was a little worried that my hair would smell like vinegar (it doesn't). And then I rinsed with cold water. I am going to try blow drying it...so yes. this is day one.. I hope I am on the 2 week end of my hair looking awful rather then the 4 week end.. but we shall see! I should post pictures.. none of the other articles had pictures.. which should tell me something!!!!
Here are some articles I read about it if you are interested- I like the NPR article the most because it shows how we as a society have been convinced that we need to wash our hair every day just thru advertising.. sheesh.

The only reason I am using this blog site is because my xanga site keeps linking to facebook... and it's annoying. And everyone else has a blogger.. .:)
